We researched and developed the DocBook 5.0 dervided RelaxNG schemas adopted by Penguin as their corporate XML standard.
We also led the technical aspects of the Penguin Conversion Project which involved the conversion of over 3000 backlist and several hundred frontlist titles from typeset (either image only or textual) PDF files into XML and eBook (IDFP ePub) formats.

Nic was contracted to Sweet and Maxwell to create XML models (W3C XML Schemas) for legal texts and journals and to create a schema to extend existing schemas and allow for annotations to be added to legislation avaialable via WestLaw UK.
We created the website for Hart Journals (Hart's Legal Journals arm), allowing users to search and browse PDF versions of individual articles from each journal. The site including a CMS allowing Hart staff to upload new journals and articles. The site also allowed non subscribers to purchase individual articles.
We specified the technical standards and managed the technical aspects of the conversion of Topley & Wilson’s Microbiology and Microbial Infections to XML. The text was converted to DocBook 4 and, from there, to a limited subset of HTML 4. We also created the XSLT stylesheets used to convert the XML to HTML.
We provided the architect and lead programmer on this website project. Content was created using XML with XSLT conversions. We researched and guided the specification for the XML (using the NLM DTDs).
